A prepaid credit card to manage expenses
For anyone looking for a prepaid credit card to make sure you spend no more than you have in your bank account, the Koho credit card is a great option.
The Koho card is a Canadian bank card that does double duty as a credit card.
Recently, I talked to someone who wanted to use her credit card less. She wanted to buy something online and I recommended Koho as a way to avoid using her credit card.
Signing up for an account took about ten minutes.
Right after signing up, Koho spits out a virtual credit card then mails you the real credit card immediately.
Then, to allow her to purchase the item she wanted online, she had to send some money to herself.
To do this, she simply sent herself an e-transfer since Koho is also a bank account.
When you open a Koho account, you can send e-transfers to yourself with the email you signed up with and Koho also gives you a dedicated email for e-transfers that ends with @kohotransfers.ca.
After she sent herself enough money to make the purchase, she simply used her new virtual credit card and that was that.
I can heartily recommend the Koho card for managing expenses. I also like it for security reasons. There are times when you may be visiting a new website that you’ve never used before. You may not be quite ready yet to share your main credit card number. The Koho card ensures that the vendor can charge no more than you’ve put on the card.
There’s just one thing I can’t recommend right away.
When you sign up, Koho will offer you several options and other bells and whistles.
I would politely decline all of these if all you want is a pre-paid card to manage expenses.
Later on, after you’ve been with Koho for a few months and like how they operate, you can explore some of their terrific banking options.
Sign up for a Koho prepaid credit card today, and ditch the depressing credit card bill.
